Free resume and interviewing assistance at WorkSource...

Having worked for WorkSource, I can tell you assuredly, that you will receive an abundance of help and care at any WorkSource. They will help you as you write your resume, will offer critiques and suggestions, and will offer you the ability to learn your labor market and prepare for your job search and interviewing through their great assortment of workshops.

I have never met a greater group of people who selflessly pursue the best interests of their customers. If you are serious about your job search and are committed to growth, this is the best place to get plugged into. There is a schedule for WorkSource workshops below. However, let me give you a brief rundown of just what you are getting.

Resume and Application class

They will assist you as you write and edit and revise your resume, teaching you not just what employers look for, but the necessary key words you will need to use as you apply for jobs.

Interviewing Workshop

There are a lot of talented and entertaining speakers as well. The Interviewing class is participatory and fun. You will learn what to look for (moments of opportunity) during an interview. In addition to learning many questions and answers, your takeaway will be: fun instructor, strong desire to help me succeed, valuable information, people I can network with.

Job Search Strategies

You will learn how to work smart and not hard in your job search. What pitfalls to avoid. Having worked directly with these instructors, I can tell you first hand that they are knowledgeable so listen to them. They will help you if you get connected with them.

Marketing Yourself 101

Without mentioning names, there is a Marine who goes by the nickname "Moose" in Olympia that puts on one of these workshops. His classes are always packed and he teaches you how to take your military experience and translate that into "civilian lingo."  In my opinion, this is a must attend workshop.

What you should remember

There is an old saying, "You get more flies with honey than you do vinegar." If you put forth 100 percent effort in your job search, they will give you 100 percent assistance. They will not write your resume for you so don't expect that. But they will be a tremendous help for you as you look for work. Do the following to ensure you are getting the most out of your time and so that they truly are able to help you:

  1. Have a generic application completed as well as a basic resume (they will show you how you can do that).
  2. Be interview ready when you arrive at WorkSource. Employers visit often and will often choose to interview people on site and if employers call looking for someone, you will be ready.
  3. Greet people with a smile (customers and staff) and listen attentively to any advice given.
  4. Be willing and open to alternate ideas for your job search.

The staff I have known and worked with over the years are some of the most self-less people who only want to help. It makes their day when someone they have been helping finds employment. That is one of the most fulfilling moments for someone who works for WorkSource. Remember to thank them.

Consultations and Resume Reviews

I firmly believe that everyone should be able to write their own resume. That with critiques and suggestions, one must be able to put their information on paper in a readable way. Most companies are going to require computer skills so this is a skill one must learn.

We currently respond to requests for help on a case by case basis at no cost. We volunteer our time to assist with reviewing your resume and prepping you for an interview. Due to constraints, we only work with one client at a time and not everyone will be accepted. If you would like to request help, contact us today.
